In 2017, First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls began hosting a Prayer Walk on the campuses of Wichita Falls ISD to mark the beginning of the new school year. The Prayer Walk falls on the Sunday before the first day of school in our district. During the Prayer Walk, members of this congregation and our community members will simultaneously converge at every campus, including the Administration Building, spending a few minutes praying for the students and families of each school, the faculty and staff, and the administration. We invite area churches to encourage their members to participate at their Partners In Education (PIE) school or another school of their choosing. It’s a pleasure to see our diverse communities come together for a moment of prayer across the campuses. This year’s Prayer Walk will take place on Sunday, August 11.
Our church will have a representative on each campus to help get things organized and started, but all who feel led to pray are invited to do so. The prayer will be available online, so even those who cannot make it to a campus can participate at the designated time. We believe this non-partisan, intra-denominational, unifying event is a way for the Christian community of Wichita Falls to stand together in love for our community.
Make plans to join FUMC at the campus of your choice at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, to pray for our schools, the students, teachers, administrators, and support staff in the upcoming school year. If you’re interested in being an FUMC representative and leading the prayer at a particular campus, contact the church office.
