Growing Disciples. Growing Leaders.
Our goal at FUMC is to provide a safe and loving environment for all children to grow and learn more about God, themselves, and their role as disciples of Jesus Christ in the world. We believe that children are valuable and fully participating members of the Body of Christ, and as such, they have opportunities to learn, serve, fellowship, and lead in age-appropriate ways throughout the year.
Nursery
The church nursery is available for infants six weeks old through toddlers age three on Sunday mornings and at select events throughout the year. Our nursery is led by a professional staff with the goal that every child feels safe and loved, and every parent can feel confident that their child will experience the love of God in our building.
Children’s Sunday School
Our goal is to provide a fun, safe, and nurturing environment for children ages 3 through 5th grade in Sunday School. Children are welcome to join the Pre-K Sunday School class as they turn age three and are potty-trained. Contact our Children’s Director, Kim English, for more information about Children’s Education.
Children’s Sunday School meets on the Second Floor of the Education Wing:
- Preschool Class (ages 3-5) – Room 206
- Kindergarten-1st Grade – Room 209
- 2nd-3rd Grade – Room 211
- 4th-5th Grade – Room 216
What is the procedure for taking my child to and picking my child up from Sunday School?
A parent or guardian must walk his/her child to Sunday School and sign him/her in. There is a place on the form to write who will pick up your child from Sunday School. To make it easier for you, you may write “nursery” on the pick-up area of the form and the teacher can take your child to the Nursery on the first floor after class (of course, your child is always welcome in worship, too). This can make it easier for you to make it to 10:30 a.m. worship. If you plan to pick up your child from Sunday school, please do so no later than 10:15 a.m.
How can I keep up with what my children are learning in Sunday School?
Each month, our Director of Children’s Ministries, Kim English, writes a newsletter detailing the month’s theme and each week’s lesson. The newsletter will also give general information about upcoming events for children’s ministries. These newsletters are available in your child’s Sunday School classroom or can be emailed to you upon request.
Milestones
As children grow, their capacity to understand God and practice their faith grows as well. At FUMC, we mark these developmental passages with Milestones!
Picture Bible
Each year, in the Spring, children who are three years old will receive a Picture Bible as a gift from the Children’s Ministry.
Third-Grade Bible Presentation
In the Fall, third graders receive a new age-appropriate Bible as a gift from the Children’s Ministry. On this day, we provide parents with an opportunity to help their third-grade students learn how to use their Bible during the Sunday School hour. We then formally present Bibles to students during worship.
Confirmation
Once students enter sixth grade, they are welcome to participate in Confirmation Class. Confirmation is a time set aside to teach and nurture young people in the basics of the Christian faith and understanding of that faith as United Methodists. At FUMC, we gear Confirmation towards 6th graders but encourage anyone in 6th through 8th grade who has not been confirmed to participate. Confirmation is a five-month class that begins in August of each year. Visit our FAQ for more information about Confirmation Class, or contact our Children’s Director, Kim English.
MinistrySafe
MinistrySafe is a policy to keep all children in our church safe from abuse. All staff and volunteers who work with minors are background-checked and required to complete a safety course presented by MinistrySafe.
Music and MORE
During the school year, we offer a choir and discipleship program for children ages 4 through 5th grade that gives children the opportunity to build Christ-centered relationships through music and fine arts.
Music & MORE takes place on Wednesday afternoons throughout the school year from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the Undercroft. Each choir performs frequently in Sunday worship services.
Children’s Choirs
Cherub Choir (age 4–5)
Trinity Choir (grades 1st–3rd)
Wesley Choir (grades 4th–5th)
Children’s Mission Projects
Children have many opportunities to participate in Mission projects throughout the year, including a Children’s Day of Service in the Summer, Lemonade Stands to raise money for the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank in the Fall, and more! We actively search for ways to engage children in acting out their faith in the world!
Bible, Arts, and Music Camp
Children age 5 (and entering Kindergarten) through 5th grade (completed) are welcome to attend
Bible, Arts, and Music Camp in the Summer. What is Bible, Arts, & Music (BAM) camp? It’s a combined Music and Arts Camp with Vacation Bible School for a fun-filled, creative learning experience kids will love! Each year, our Children’s Director, Kim English, and our Children’s Choir Director, Abi Parker, write and plan the camp curriculum unique to FUMC Wichita Falls! Advanced registration is required.
Children’s Day of Service
Children 3rd through 5th grade (completed) are invited to register for our Children’s Day of Service on August 6! Children will serve at the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank and complete a service project at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. BYOLunch. Camp space is limited to 13 participants—register online.
