Life and the life of faith are a journey for which we need nourishment – physical, emotional, and spiritual.  Join Rev. Troy Sims on Ash Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 12:00noon or 6:30pm in Perkins Chapel to begin considering finding this food.

Then, on February 29, 2012 at 12:00-1:00pm, we’ll continue these thoughts as we begin a weekly Lenten study (skipping March 14 for Spring Break) using Robert Schnase’s book, Forty Days of Fruitful Living: Practicing a Life of Grace.  The study will go through April 4, 2012.

Particular verses to consider prior to worship and during the study are:

• John 4:34 – Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work.” (NRSV)
• John 6:53 – So Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” (NRSV)
• John 14:12 – Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. (NRSV)

Even if you choose not to participate in the study, we hope you’ll consider getting a copy of the book to read for personal devotional use throughout the season of Lent.  If you do use the book for the study or only personal use, you’ll start reading on Ash Wednesday, reading each successive day except on Sundays when you’ll read the unnumbered thematic introductions.

Our Christmas Eve Worship is one of our most beloved services of the year, and we invite all to join us in celebrating the birth of Christ:

This traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Worship Service is full of children, choirs and candles.  Join us!

If receiving Holy Communion is an important part of your Christmas Eve celebration, join us at 5:00pm in Perkins Chapel to join us in our liturgy.  You may come and go to receive the sacrament anytime between 5:00 and 5:45pm.

Have you gotten a yard sign, yet, for our Christmas Eve Service – with new time of 6:00pm? If not, drop by the church or pick one up Sunday. If you desire, we’d receive a $5 freewill offering to help cover the cost!

Luke 2:8-20:

8 In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: 11 to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.”

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.”

16 So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. 17 When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child; 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

These are just two of the comments about the special worship of lessons and carols with live nativity on December 4, 2011.

All vocal choirs (Cherub, Trinity, Wesley, Chapel, and Chancel) worked to make this event a success along with members from the Asbury Ringers, Elizabeth Yeager (flute), several youth and ministry assistants in the live nativity, and the ministry staff.

Special thanks also goes to all of those who brought goodies for Cafe le Paul in the Atrium prior to the service!
