The Renew & Remix Dance Party Extravaganza on Friday, February 10, 2012 was a success on many levels: fun, fellowship, and raising money for Children, Youth, and Adult Missions!

The night began with a re-affirmation of wedding vows led by “Elvis” inserting portions of his song lyrics in the liturgy.  After Joe & Norma Adair cut the wedding cake (receiving that honor as they were the longest married couple there – 61 years), “Elvis” sang “Love Me Tender” for the married folk to dance to.

Following that, the evening gained steam as people of all ages hit the dance floor – dancing for about 2 hours!

In all, over $800 was raised – the majority to benefit the 2012 Summer Youth Mission Trips!

Twenty-eight youth & adults left June 19 for a week of service and fellowship in El Paso, TX completing ten different projects in that community including:

• Maintenance  & improvements at the Lydia Patterson Institute;
• Food sorting & distribution at the area food bank;
• Home repairs; and
• A variety of improvement projects at the Boys & Girls Club.

Plans are in motion for our Summer 2011 mission trip so mark your calendar and reserve the date. Imagine waking up in the poorest zip code in the United States. This will be the experience of youth and adults from FUMC on June 19-25 when we travel to the Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso, TX.

Lydia Patterson Institute is the only remaining United Methodist School in the US that serves a predominately Hispanic population. Most students are from neighboring Juarez, Mexico and rise at 4:00am everyday for their trek to Lydia Patterson. They come to study in a church-supported environment where faith and knowledge interact to enrich lives and develop Christian leadership.

This summer our youth will again lend their sweat and pride to the resources at the school, and they will once again witness firsthand testimony about how Lydia Patterson changes lives and opens doors. Please join them in support and prayer as they prepare for the trip in June.

The youth had been fasting since midnight, and they still had 23 more hours to fast when they gathered at 8:00am on February 26, 2011 to work for the Texas Ramp Project as a mission project.  The tasks:

• Build two 20 ft. wheel chair ramps;
• Paint three wheel chair ramps.

By 1:30pm, all five projects had been completed by 32 youth (grades 7-12, from FUMC and Floral Heights UMC) and only 11 adults!  GOOD JOB!

Teens made a difference here at FUMC on Saturday, October 23. We picked up trash around the church building and parking lot and also worked inside the church cleaning and organizing some problem areas. A big thanks to the 30 youth and adults who volunteered their time and service!

June 9, 2010 marked a first for the North Texas Annual Conference as, in addition to the normal business of the conference, a mission work day was held to help members of the conference (including our Bishop, District Superintendents, and Extended Cabinet) practice what we preach.  FUMC folk participated in all of the projects:

• Cooking Breakfast (Connie Rosenburg & Erica Conner)
• Painting the Riverside Cemetery Fence (Erica Conner, Rev. Pellikan, and children of Adventures in Mission (AIM-1))
• Texas Ramp Project 1 (Rev. Sims)
• Texas Ramp Project 2 (Alan Ballard & former Youth Pastor, Dana Coker)
• Texas Ramp Project 3 (Elizabeth Yeager)
• Imagine No Malaria Car Wash (Youth of FUMC)
  In fact Jeff Ginn and our youth spearheaded this event that raised over $300 to help eradicate malaria on the continent of Africa by 2015)

Twenty three (23) youth and adults left after 10:30am Worship to go on a Mission Trip to San Marcos, Texas to do repairs on homes of people that live in that area.  As you can see in the picture, they prayed as a group before they left, but we ask that you pray for them as well over this coming week.  They will be returning late on Friday, June 18.
