Rotation Sunday School (K-5th Grade)

We use the Workshop Rotation Model for Children’s Sunday School in order to help the Children to experience Bible stories in many different ways as they grow in faith. We invite and encourage all kindergarten-5th graders to be a part of this faith experience.

In the Workshop Rotation, the same story is taught for four weeks, but children rotate to a different workshop each week to learn about the story in a different way. The repetition of the same story week after week helps the child remember the story. By teaching the story in a different way each week, the child has an opportunity to learn the story in a way that best suits their strengths in learning.

What workshops are offered at FUMC?

  • Temple Court: This workshop is for story telling, which might occur in a variety of ways. Sometimes the story may be told using a “picture” book, a video, puppetry, and/or by acting out the story!
  • Marketplace: In this workshop, children will experience the story through arts and crafts, science, or even through food! Because of these opportunities, the child has an opportunity to exhibit creativity!
  • JCJourney.com: Here the children engage the Bible story through the use of computers and video. Various software programs help the kids learn the story through computer based activities and games. At times, the kids might participate in making videos of the story by acting like newscasters telling the story or acting the story out!
  • Joyful Noise: As might be guessed by the name, in this workshop, children will experience the story through music and games, thus allowing them to engage the story through song and fun activities. In addition, they are given the opportunity to worship God!

Which workshop should a child attend each week?

  • We meet in Room 215 at 9:15am for gathering time. The teachers for each class come to take their group to the classroom personally.
  • If you are running late, there is a chart on the door of each workshop that designates where each age group will be on a given Sunday in the rotation. Similarly, there is a bulletin board on the second floor that can help inform you of where a certain age child will attend Sunday School.
  • The children are grouped as follows:
    • Kindergarten
    • 1st – 2nd Grade
    • 3rd Grade
    • 4th – 5th Grade

Where does Children’s Rotation Sunday School take place?

  • All of Children’s Sunday School takes place on the second floor of the education wing at FUMC.

Children’s Rotation Sunday School Started New Study

On April 5, 2009, the Children’s Rotation Sunday School started a new study called “Easter: Go & Tell.”  Using Matthew 28:1-10, 16-20 as a basis, the children are learning that Jesus told his disciples (including the children and us) to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey all that Jesus commanded.
