Most Sunday nights (6:30-8:30pm) this group of 20 & early 30 somethings meets for Bible Studies in member homes, for fellowship, and / or for short-term service projects. Occasionally, the group will have social gatherings on other days of the week as well! They are a lot of fun! Don’t you want to join them?
Recent studies or special events have included:
A Study of Jesus’ Last Week
A Study of the Book of Revelation
A Valentines Party (everybody dressed up in their best and ate at Burger King, went bowling, and looked at high school year books)
Birthday Parties, helping members celebrate another year
Packing PowerPaks 4 Kids to benefit disadvantaged kids at Alamo School
Young adult singles are being encouraged to take part in the weekly, Sunday evening gatherings (6:30-8:00pm) in the homes of participants this summer. Each week, we share in a dessert followed by Bible study, discussion, and prayer.
Guiding the discussion each week in the summer is the NOOMA video series featuring Rob Bell (founding pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville, Michigan). Since each week is standalone, there is no need to worry about missing a week! Likewise, no outside preparation is necessary.
NOOMA is a transliteration of the Greek word, pneuma, which is translated into English as wind, breath, or spirit. The following quote is from the back of NOOMA videos:
We can get anything we want, from anywhere in the world, whenever we want it. That’s how it is and that’s how we want it to be. Still, our lives aren’t any different than other generations before us. Our time is. We want spiritual direction, but it has to be real for us and available when we need it. We want a new format for getting Christian perspectives. NOOMA is the new format. It’s short films with communicators that really speak to us. Compact, portable, and concise. Each NOOMA touches on issues that we care about, that we want to talk about, and it comes in a way that fits our world. It’s a format that’s there for us when we need it, as we need it, how we need it.
A team effort went into the 36th Annual Senior Adult Luncheon to honor the senior citizens of our church for past and current support of our church. The event began with a tasty meal of orange glazed chicken, rosemary potatoes, sauteed vegetables, a roll, and red velvet cake prepared by Bryan Press of Monarch Catering.
Then, Payton Beggs (a Junior at Old High) took the stage, wowing the honorees with her beautiful voice on old-time and modern country tunes.
Next, awards were given:
Potted Flowers:
Thanks to a generous donation of Tammy & Kristian Kowing of the Exodus Sunday School Class, someone at each table received a potted flower that served as the center piece for each table!
Tom Golden joined FUMC on August 29, 1999 and has participated in and helped lead discussion in the 3rd Thursday St. Simeon Group. Likewise, he is serving his 3rd year as President of the Bi-the-Way Class where he leads / teaches classes and has gotten the class involved in the Annual Fall Food Drive and the Mt. Calvary UMC Power Meals.
This event would not have been possible without the following people:
Tammy & Kristian Kowing (of the Exodus Sunday School Class) and their daughter Kelsey who decorated the tables;
The FUMC Youth and Jeff Ginn who helped setup, serve food, and cleanup;
