Our goal is to provide these comforting tokens of love to those who are critically ill or bereaved as a reminder that God’s love surrounds them.
How We Operate and How You Can Be Involved:
We meet on the 3rd Floor of FUMC to stitch and plan each month on the 2nd WEDNESDAY:
Supper – 6:30-7:00pm
Stitch & Fellowship – 7:00-8:30pm
You don’t have to know how to knit or crochet.
If you want to learn, we will teach you.
If you have a health issue that keeps you from knitting or crocheting,
you can still be an active participant in the Prayer Shawl Ministry.
We’ll show you how.
Shawls can be made using other methods than knitting or crocheting.
How can you make a prayer shawl?
We are open to providing other tokens of love. Pillow cases or stocking caps are just two examples.
What ideas for such gifts do you have?
If you aren’t able to meet,
call us and we’ll pick up your shawls or lap robes.
The most important aspect of this ministry is prayer.
Prayer doesn’t require physical strength or know-how, just a desire of the heart.
As of Wednesday, October 12, 2011, our Prayer Shawl Ministry began meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month on the 3rd floor of the Education wing!
The evening started with a soup supper provided by by Nancy Orr, Deena Haarmann, and Jenny Fadow. Then, Joyce Barham talked about making shawls for FUMC shut-ins, and all agreed this was a wonderful first project. Nancy Orr and Deena Haarmann taught several members to do a new pattern, and all shared tips.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, November 9, 2011 on the 3rd floor of the Education wing with supper from 6:30-7:00pm followed by stitching and fellowship from 7:00 – 8:30pm.
Did you know FUMC has a Prayer Shawl Ministry that seeks to provide shawls, lap robes, pillow cases, and more to critically ill or bereaved members of FUMC ?
