Berean Sunday School Class

The Berean Class Mission Statement

To provide a comfortable, supportive fellowship where members seek spiritual fulfillment and learn God’s purpose for their lives.

About our class:

  • We get our name from Acts 17:11 that states: “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and searched the Scriptures everyday to see if what Paul said was true.” We believe that we fit this mold from Scripture.
  • We are a friendly and inclusive group of women and men whose ages range between the 30s-50s. Some of us are married; some are single; and some have children. Several of our members are even in the military. In all instances, we provide a supportive fellowship to all members.
  • In addition, we see ourselves as “fun, fun, fun,” and we are active in all aspects of the church. For us, this is a place to belong.

What and how do we study?

  • Studies are chosen by the group, and Jerry Rouse is the primary teacher.
  • Studies that we have done in the past include various studies of the Bible (i.e. book of Romans), Christian book reviews (i.e. The Purpose Driven Life), and studies based on current events.

Where does the Berean Class meet?

  • We meet in the Rec. Lobby of the Education Wing in Room 6-R.

What time do we meet?

  • Our class meets from 9:20 to 10:15 each Sunday morning, allowing time for members to attend either the 8:30 or 10:30am Worship Services at FUMC.

Fellowship Activities

  • We do periodic “after Church” lunches where we eat out at a restaurant or share in a pot luck. We also have holiday gatherings as well as adult and / or family gatherings including: bar-b-cues, bowling, swim parties, gathering in people’s home, etc.

Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010 Was a Festive Day!

palmprocession3Our 10:30am Worship Service opened with the hymn, “All Glory, Laud, and Honor,” and the children of our church processing into the Sanctuary waving palm branches, recalling the biblical story of Jesus entering Jerusalem so long ago.  Following festive music and thought provoking readings and preaching, it was time for lunch.

As they have for many years, the Berean Sunday School Class provided a delicious meal of spaghetti and meat sauce, salad, and bread.  In addition, this year, they treated us with a tasty dish of chicken alfredo pasta!  About 190 people were served!  THANK YOU BEREAN CLASS.

After lunch, we had a special visitor in the Easter Bunny (thank you, Breanne Press for arranging to get the Easter Bunny here).  Rev. Pellikan reminded us that Easter Eggs are a symbol of new life, which Jesus’ resurrection was (and is) a symbol of as well!

Then it was time for the Easter Egg Hunt!  What a blast!  In addition, each child got an Easter Book entitled The Promise of Easter and a bubble stick!

What a great way to begin Holy Week!
