Musikgarten is Coming to FUMC in September 2009

top_mg1We are pleased that you are considering music classes for your child. Research has shown that we are all born with an aptitude for music, but that aptitude diminishes if it is not actively nurtured between the ages of birth and nine.

The Musikgarten classes are designed to nurture a child’s music aptitude by engaging children and their families in singing and movement activities which help attune the ear, refine the voice, and develop a rhythmic body through which music can be expressed. Additionally, instrumental activities are part of the program, ranging from playing simple rhythm instruments such as sticks and drums for babies and toddlers to playing keyboards for older children.

Musikgarten is the only program that offers curricula for newborns through group piano instruction. It is based on a keen understanding of how children learn, in both a general sense and, specifically, how they learn music.

As you familiarize yourself with our class offerings and learn more about Musikgarten, we look forward to answering your questions and welcoming your family to Musikgarten!

Details:

Classes will begin Wednesday, September 16.

We will be offering two classes:

  • Family Music for Toddlers (15 months to 3 years)
    Wednesdays, 9:00am and 10:00am
  • Family Music for Babies (birth to 18 months)
    Wednesdays, 11:00am

For more information, contact Shelby Bell, who will be leading these classes: musikgartenwichitafalls@gmail.com.

To register on-line, visit:  http://www.musikgarten.org/wichitafalls.

asburyringersThe Asbury Ringers performing at 2009 Cafe Broadway.

The Asbury Ringers will be back for rehearsals beginning Sunday, September 13, 2009, and they are in need of a few good handbell ringers!  You do not have to be an experienced ringer to participate, but some concept of musical timing and rhythm is needed.

If you are interested, but aren’t sure you have the skills or time to put toward this worthwhile ministry, talk to the director of this adult handbells group, Bill Niles.  You can contact him at:

June 4, 2009 Café Broadway Declared Best So Far!

Many said it was the best yet! The reason may be that the night was dedicated to Joyce Barham and the many years of service she has given the church as a volunteer and as a staff person!

The delicious menu included pork tenderloin, potato casserole, tangy vegetables, chocolate cherry cake, apple dump cake, rolls, and drinks.  Our youth group served as waiters, and in the process, they raised over $700 to go towards their mission trip to Galveston later this month.

The repertoire was diverse with old and very modern Broadway Show Tunes; Old and New Country; Blues, Standards, and Rock ‘n’ Roll Oldies – and just about everything in between! Thank you to the YES (Young Energetic Seniors) and Chancel Choir for sponsoring this awesome event!

Check out pictures of this event here:
