Missions – Wellness

We believe that providing for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of those outside of our church is very important. Thus, we participate in causes such as Relay for Life and events that promote overall wellness of people.

If you have an idea of an event or project that might fit into this missions category, contact Rev. Georgia Harrison, Adult Education Pastor: 940-766-4231, x276 or gharrison@fumcwf.org.

Look below for projects that we are working on in terms of wellness:

Let’s Provide Thermals for the Homeless – Fall 2010

HomelessCoalitionA
is asking for our assistance!

thermal_underwear-smThey are asking that we provide at least 40 pairs of thermal underwear to assist the homeless in our community. They will accept any of these sizes:

S – M – L – XL

Please bring to the church no later than Sunday, November 28.

For Sunday School Classes who are participating in the food drive, for each pair of thermal underwear your class provides by the end of the food drive competition on November 21, add an additional 20 items to your total for that Sunday!  Just leave these in your classroom with the food!

WellnessStar-smWith 8,000 WFISD students considered economically disadvantaged, many cannot afford school supplies. How are we to transform our community if we do not provide our children the tools they need to succeed in school?

PBTSlogoOne of the ways we can help is by providing volunteers for the Project Back to School Roundup on Saturday, August 14, 2010 (CLICK HERE to learn more).  This will be an informative, fun family event that provides WFISD students with the essential supplies and services they need to start the school year ready to learn.

FUMC Relay for Life Team Raised $2,483

This was the first year that FUMC had an official American Cancer Society Relay for Life Team to raise money and awareness for the elimination of cancer. We had 20 official team members who raised money and walked at the event held at McNiel Jr. High on June 5-6, 2009.  As of this writing, the FUMC team raised $2,483, and their goal was only $1,000. Way to go team!  It is not too late to make a donation, so feel free to CLICK HERE to make a donation on-line.

In addition, we had many support folk (especially some FUMC youth) who came out to McNiel Jr. High for the event to support the team and to even help walk! Paul & Carol Ellis provided us water, Gatorade, and snack crackers to help us make it through the night of fun.

Special thanks go to Trudy Wilcox for being a WONDERFUL team captain who kept us in the know and cheered us on.  We hope you’ll join us next year to help bring an end to cancer!
