An important aspect of our local missions at FUMC is providing goods and money for those in need. We do this in a number of ways throughout the year:
Members of the Open Door Sunday School Class provided food for and / or served some of the less fortunate in our community when they did the Power Meal at Mt. Calvary UM Church on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. The menu included fried chicken, salad, corn salad, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, au grautin potatoes, bread, pecan & pumpkin pie, and cookies.
Thank you to Ann Bowling, Garland Dean, Wanda Hoffman,
Gary Sparks, Paul & Patti Stillson, Retha Stone, and Kris & Paula Tilker
for your ministry!

Members of the Exodus Class (April Crutcher, Kevin & DeEdra Folmar, Kenneth & Lindsay Greer, & Shari Schultz) as well as three of their children (Preston Crutcher, Maverick Folmar, & Daniel Schultz) prepared, brought, and served a meal of spaghetti & meat balls, salad, breadsticks, cookies, and dessert bread for about 50 less fortunate people for the Power Meal at Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church here in Wichita Falls.
For those of you concerned about the young people of our day and age, take comfort in knowing that not only did Preston, Maverick, and Daniel WANT to be there, they worked extremely hard in setting the table and taking drinks and food to the people we served.
Next month, the Open Door Class will serve the meal on December 9.

Mary Jane Arrington of the Win-Some Class
Special thanks go to the Young Adult Singles (with a little help from Jr. High Youth) for packing the PowerPaks for the week of October 25.
Likewise, a big thank you goes to the Win-Some Sunday School Class for taking care of the Power Packs for the week of November 1.
A big difference is being made in the lives of these young people by providing food for them on the weekend!

As in years past, we will be taking canned / boxed goods to benefit Interfaith Ministries during the Thanksgiving / Christmas Holiday Season. Individuals are invited to drop their donations in the marked containers in the Narthex or in the 1st Floor hallway of the Education Wing.
Again, this year, we will have a “contest” between Sunday School Classes, so members of Sunday School Classes should take their items to their respective class to “receive credit. However, there will be a change this year to make it more fair.
The number of items a class brings will be divided by the number of class members in the Sunday School attendance sheets. Thus, smaller classes will have a better chance in the contest.
Prizes include:
- 4-weeks taught by Rev. Sims
- 3-weeks taught by Dr. Gene Newton
- Do you know someone who would be willing to offer a prize? If so, contact Rev. Troy Sims (tsims@fumcwf.org or 940-766-4231, x229).

After a slow start this year, we received our first shipment of food on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 to provide PowerPaks (weekend food) for less fortunate children at Alamo School. That evening the Jr. High Bible Study youth packed the 98 packs (a number that will continue to grow over the ensuing weeks). Many thanks to the Jr. High for getting us started!
Then, on Thursday, October 22, Bonnie Davis (our PowerPak volunteer coordinator) and Courtney Grimes delivered the packs.
The Young Adult Singles will pack next week, but maybe you are interested in volunteering to help pack or deliver the PowerPaks. If so, fill out the form below, or contact Rev. Sims (940-766-4231, x229 or tsims@fumcwf.org) or Bonnie Davis (767-0648).

On Wednesday, October 21, 2009, members of the Living the Questions Sunday School Class prepared and served food (chili, tea, and cookies) for the less fortunate at Mt. Calvary UMC (at 5th St. & MLK Blvd. on Eastside). About 38 people enjoyed this warm, tasty meal on a very cool and rainy night after sharing in Bible study.
If you have a small group that would be willing to participate in providing meals at Mt. Calvary, contact Rev. Troy Sims: 940-766-4231, 229 or tsims@fumcwf.org.
