Fourteen People Build a Ramp in Iowa Park – July 24, 2010

Fourteen from three local churches joined forces on Saturday, July 24, 2010 to build a 33′ ramp to make it easier for an elderly couple in Iowa Park to get in and out of their home.

Three were from Archer City FUMC (Rev. Rick Davis, Karen Aulds, and Leon Groves), one from Floral Heights UMC (Don Beeks), and one was the director of the Texas Ramp Project (John Laine). The nine from FUMC were:

Dawn Yadlosky

We met at FUMC at 8:00am and were at the home by 8:40am. We were finished about 12:40pm! It took a great team effort to make this happen!

Participate in a Texas Ramp Project Build – July 24, 2010

Help us provide mobility for a disabled individual in our community by helping to build a wheelchair ramp through the Texas Ramp Project.

Saturday, July 24, 2010
8am (meet in the FUMC parking lot)
We should be done between 12noon and 1pm.

Most tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorites that fit your hands perfectly!

Interested in a Mini-Mission Trip – August 1-5, 2010?

On this mission trip to El Paso and Lydia Patterson Institute, we’d leave on Sunday, August 1, work Monday-Wednesday, and return Thursday, August 5.

We’d like to make this a family trip with parents and children!
Breakfast would be like cereal, granola bars, pop tarts, etc.
Lunch would be like sandwiches and chips.
Supper we’d go out to eat!
Cost is TBD and dependent on number of folks interested – the more the cheaper!

FUMC Children, Youth, and Adults Take Part in Annual Conference Mission Day – June 9, 2010

June 9, 2010 marked a first for the North Texas Annual Conference as, in addition to the normal business of the conference, a mission work day was held to help members of the conference (including our Bishop, District Superintendents, and Extended Cabinet) practice what we preach. FUMC folk participated in all of the projects:

Cooking Breakfast (Connie Rosenburg & Erica Conner)
Painting the Riverside Cemetery Fence (Erica Conner, Rev. Pellikan, and children of Adventures in Mission (AIM-1))
Texas Ramp Project 1 (Rev. Sims)
Texas Ramp Project 2 (Alan Ballard & former Youth Pastor, Dana Coker)
Texas Ramp Project 3 (Elizabeth Yeager)
Imagine No Malaria Car Wash (Youth of FUMC)
In fact Jeff Ginn and our youth spearheaded this event that raised over $300 to help eradicate malaria on the continent of Africa by 2015)

Emma Knight & Her Dad Provide Meal for Habitat Volunteers

Did you know?

Habitat For Humanity of Wichita Falls does a Collegiate Challenge program where students from colleges around the country come to work here in Wichita Falls. This week, Air Force Academy Cadets from Colorado Springs and University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point Students were here to serve.

One of the treats they experienced on Thursday, March 25, 2010 was a meal provided by Emma Knight and her Dad, Kyle. Other than cutting up the meat, Emma essentially did all the cooking (of course under the guidance of Kyle who is teaching her the fine art of cajun cooking) and helped serve jambalaya, green beans, and bread!

College Students, Ronda Haynes, & Jeff Ginn Do Mission Trip to El Paso

Did you know that three college students from our church (Lauren Haynes, Clay Ginn, and Dannielle Rouse), Ronda Haynes, and Jeff Ginn participated in a Mission Trip during Spring Break to the Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso, Texas with the Denton Wesley Foundation? Lauren, Clay, and Dannielle are shown here with Stephanie Iracheta (the recipient of the FUMC Youth LPI Scholarship) and her brother, Alberto.

First Ramp Build a Success – March 6, 2010

On Saturday, March 6, three from FUMC (DeEdra Folmar, Bryan Press, & Troy Sims) and four from Floral Heights UMC joined forces to work on a 29’ wheel-chair ramp on Wood St. This was the first build that our church had worked on with the Texas Ramp Project (www.texasramps.org). The whole project from start to finish was only 4 hours, allowing the homeowner to more easily and safely make it from the house to the car.

Currently, John Laine, of the Texas Ramp Project, said there are over 20 ramps that need to be built in our area now (and that is without doing much publicity). We plan to try to build at least a ramp per month, and hopefully at some point we can get a warehouse to be able to pre-build and store components which will allow more people to participate and make the actual build go faster.

Successful Habitat for Humanity Workday – October 3, 2009

Much work was completed on Saturday, October 3, 2009 by nine FUMC members as well as members of Faith Baptist on the “Apostles’ Build” (a house being built solely by local churches). Tasks included roofing and siding. Special thanks go to these folks who came out to work: Fred Bunton, Greg & Erica Conner, Elmer Deges, John Dillard, Kyle Knight, Elizabeth Newton, J.B. Riley, and Troy Sims. Thanks also goes to those who brought food for workers: Pat Haywood, Sandra Sims, and Elizabeth Yeager.
