Rev. Barbara Brown Taylor – 2001 Perkins Lecturer

BarbaraBrownTaylorOur 2001 Perkins Lecturer was Rev. Barbara Brown Taylor who received a Bachelor of Arts in Religion in 1973 from Emory University and a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School in 1976. She was ordained a Deacon in 1983 and Priest in 1984 by the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta.

Taylor teaches religion at Piedmont College in rural northeast Georgia and is an adjunct professor of spirituality at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur. She is the author of twelve books, including the New York Times bestseller An Altar in the World: Finding the Sacred Beneath Our Feet, published by HarperOne in February 2009. Her first memoir, Leaving Church: A Memoir of Faith, met with widespread critical acclaim, winning a 2006 Author of the Year award from the Georgia Writers Association. A contributing editor to Sojourners, an at-large editor for The Christian Century and sometime commentator on Georgia Public Radio, Taylor lives on a working farm with her husband Ed and a yard full of animals.
