Study of the Lord’s Prayer Coming Thursday, May 6, 2010

Lord, Teach UsJoin us, beginning May 6, 2010, for a study of the Lord’s Prayer using Stanley Hauerwas’ and William Willimon’s book, Lord, Teach Us:  The Lord’s Prayer and the Christian Life.  In this book, the Lord’s Prayer – the prayer taught by Jesus himself that unites Christians throughout the world – is dissected phrase by phrase in this very readable book by two eminent theologians.  From “Our Father” to “Amen,” Willimon (the 1987 Perkins Lecturer) and Hauerwas apply this ancient prayer to the whole of the Christian experience so that we come to see our life in Christian community as a reflection of these very words.

Those who want to have a better understanding of their Christian faith will benefit from this book, as will those who say this prayer regularly and by heart but who have never reflected closely on what it means to join in community and raise these petitions as Jesus instructed.
